I like Day 6. We’re adding Hot Spots now. These are the spots throughout the house that, if left unattended, will flame up & burn out of control. I have several in my house: Kitchen Counter, Dining Room Table, Corner Bookcase, Top of the Piano, the ledge of the Hutch, the Office Floor (where the kids like to play), Family Room Floor (again where the kids like to play), Downstairs Kitchen Counter (my worst spot ever… actually, the whole Family Room is!), and the Stairs. Yikes, that’s a lot of Hot Spots! However, my kids are old enough to help with all of these Spots. AND, since they are the ones usually creating the messes it leaves me time to really focus on the messes I made.
We’re actually a family who prefers to stick to a schedule most of the year. I have one son with Asperger’s Syndrome & usually Aspies don’t function well without a schedule.
Actually, I don’t function well without a schedule. I waste time & then beat myself up at the end of the day because of all the things I didn’t get done. (There are those negative thoughts again!) When I stick to my schedule though I get a lot done! And I sleep well at night. 😉
I’d like to challenge you to write down your hot spots on a post it note & put it next to your other post it note… the one above the kitchen sink. 😉 Then take 15 minutes each day and start on them. You may not even get to all of them in the first couple of days. It may take you the whole 15 minutes just to clear off one of your hot spots. That’s ok! Do what you can. You can always do more tomorrow.
So I’m curious… what are some of your hot spots?
